This month saw the submission of my Masters thesis. The final title of the thesis is "The investigation of flow regimes around coral colonies and implications on coral bleaching." Basically, I was quantifying flow velocity around the branching and massive coral colonies when they were subjected to waves and unidirectional flow. The experiments were conducted in the wave flume lab over 3 weeks, with data analyzing and writing taking almost 6 months! However, I finally managed to submit the thesis on 14th July 2011.... Now, I have to wait for about 2 months for my grade and then I can start applying for my PhD study.
In between all that writing craziness, Hannah and I managed to squeeze in some time (of course we have to do it!) to watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II on IMAX 3D. We caught the screening at 3.30am! So we managed to stay up all night, went to Denny's for a midnight breakfast and was at the theater at 3am in the morning! The movie did not disappoint us...it was magical!
Both Hannah and I are working as Teaching Assistants this semester. Hannah is teaching Toxicology and I am teaching various Biology subjects. Hannah is excited because she is now a part of Dr. Michelle Glass's lab and she will be her Masters student next year!.... On the other hand, I am stress about this whole waiting game for my Masters grade. My adviser said I should take a break, relax and have some fun, but all I want to do is WORK! So, instead, he said let's publish my Masters thesis in the Coral Reef journal... and so it gave me a new goal for these 2 months....
Hey Sonny,
ReplyDeleteWhat does it say on the cover of the book? Looks like you guys are still having fun despite the not so nice Auckland "winter"! Miss you guys and Michigan misses you!
p.s. when you're published i'll try to find your paper online and read it and brag that i know you :)
ReplyDelete@Justine... title of the book/ thesis is
ReplyDelete"An investigation of flow regimes around coral colonies and implications for coral bleaching." Not really the title I am happy about but according to my adviser, title for thesis is different from title for journal!
