A Place by Damao

It was adventure food night again with Candace, Roscoe and Yeva! Last Sunday, we had Chengdu style food. Chengdu, just like its neighbor, Szechuan, are well-known for their spicy food. However, unlike Szechuan, Chengdu  has a slow burn in their chili/ spices. As usual during these adventure food nights, we ordered a bunch of different dishes:

- hot and sweet noodle

- spicy pig intestine vermicelli
This was the most spicy dishes of all the food we ordered! It was hardly a surprise when all the vermicelli and ingredients were soaking in reddish soup, with red peppers floating on the surface :O

(I stopped writing the word "spicy" to each dish, because there were no dishes here that are non-spicy!)

- pig feet
This was my favorite. I loved the gluey gelatin when the pig feet are cooked correctly. Together with the spicy peppers, and lots of peanuts, this was definitely my favorite dish of the night.

- rabbit meat
This was not bad as well, but there were surprising not much meat in rabbit!

- bell dumplings
Very delicious.. not your everyday dumpling.

- pork sausage
- duck's tongue
(There is a picture of Hannah enjoying her duck's tongue! :P)

- oh... the dessert are not spicy :)

Cost is very reasonable. There were five of us, and Hannah and I paid about $48 (for both of us, including tips) for the meal.

BBQ Supply Co

Hannah and I went to BBQ Supply Co two weeks ago for our Friday evening date :) She has been talking about this place for a while now, and had read great reviews about the food and service. The restaurant is located in Hyde Park, at the corner of 53rd Street, just opposite of CVS. It used to be a Japanese restaurant (which we had visited as well), but BBQ Supply Co took over the location about a year ago.

It served Texas style wood-fired BBQ, and there are four types of BBQ sauce on your table for you to choose. There wasn't a huge variety of beer, but we were there for their BBQ! Both of us ordered 2-meat meals - Hannah ordered pulled chicken and chopped brisket, and I ordered rib bones and chopped briskets. We sampled all the sauce, and it was good (but I do not remember what was our favorite). The service was prompt, and the waiter was friendly given that they seemed to be under-staffed. Oh, and don't forget to ask for the pickles in the jar (those tasted so good!).

The cost wasn't bad either - $48 for two meals and two beers.
