You are not in Kansas anymore Day 5

Su'ao (Part I) - I took the opportunity to go home with a colleague (Yi-Long), and spend a day in his hometown. It was just a short day trip, but as there are so many new, interesting things, I thought I would separate it into two parts.

Su'ao is located east of Taiwan, about an hour South of Taipei by bus. It is a small fishing town.

Fishes - First thing that captured my eyes (or rather my smell) was that there are fishes everywhere - fish in the restaurants, fish in the markets, dried fish in the stalls, and YiLong's nephew runs a fish-themed restaurant as well; and all parts of the fish, including the eye!

Mazu temple - Fishermen and sailors worshipped the goddess of the sea, Mazu. It is believed that she will protect them from the storms, making sure the sailors and fishermen will get home safely. Su-ao is separated into North and South Su'ao, and each have their own Mazu temple. It was rumoured that in the past, people in the North could not get along well with the Southerners (not surprise here :P ).. and they competed with each other building the biggest, most elaborate Mazu temple.
