We reluctantly started to make our way back north, hoping to arrive at the InterIslander Ferry by tomorrow and back to the North Island. We didn't really have much chance to stop and enjoy the scenery. We did a quick stop for Jet and Lilith to stretch their legs, and made hot soup for lunch before we started on our way to Kaikoura.
Kaikoura is famous for being the ideal location for whale watching in New Zealand. Hannah and I talked about how great it would be if we have another 2 weeks on the road trip so that we could spend some more time on the east coast of South Island, and even go on a whale watching trip. However, time is pressing, and we have to come back to New Zealand again in the future to fulfil our wishes. We walked around the small town of Kaikoura for a short while, bought some supplies and had lunch before we started driving northwards towards our camp for the night.
Kaikoura Crayfish and Camp is a small camping site next to the ocean. There were no one around when we arrived, and we got to pick whichever site we like. After a short walk on the beach, we made a nice Indian curry with rice for dinner, together with a bottle of white wine to celebrate our last night on the South Island.
