Day 13

On Monday, I took the train by myself and traveled to a nearby town called Yingge, which is famous for ceramics. Taking the train was a scary experience as nothing is in English, but I got there. The is a large ceramics museum in Yingge, which was my first stop, and the place I spent most of my day as it was really cool and also it was raining outside. The musuem was three floors; the first was all about the process of making pottery, from clay to glazes to firing, the second was about the history of Yingge and ceramics as well as the future of cereamics - things like semiconductors and artificial joints and even clothing, and the third was a ceramics art museum - including an exhibition featuring Picasso

Model snake kiln - these used to cover the hillsides here

Even the bathrooms were all clay!

They had a model kiln you could walk through explaining the process of firing. I just thought it made a cool photo.

Beautiful traditional Chinese ceramics

Really old ceramics they have excavated in the area

The Future!

Picasso!

I really liked this one

Fish for Sonny

After the museum I walked through town to Yingge old street where they sell ceramics. In the drizzle I wandered around looking for a teapot as a anniversary souvenir. Unfortunately all the nice looking teapots that were actually made there were two expensive so I changed my plan and instead bought two really nice teacups and a cheaper, probably made in China teapot. I will take pictures and post when I can.
