So Day 17 (Friday) I had planned to travel by myself to Yangmingshan and go hiking. However, it involved multiple buses and after the debacle the day before and knowing I still needed to pack and do more last minute planning for our trip outside Taipei, I decided to just stay home and prepare for the trip instead of risking getting stuck out in the middle of nowhere.
Day 18, Saturday was the big day! We were heading down south to visit Sonny's godparents and stay at their place in Kaohsiung in the south of Taiwan. We would be taking the high speed train, so the entire journey from nearly one end of the country to the other would take only 1.5 hours. Crazy! First however we grabbed a quick breakfast at our favorite local shop, then head to Taipei Main Station.

Trying to let Jeffery (Godfather) know what train we would be on |

The insanity that is Main Station: 2 MRT lines, the TRA, the HSR, the main bus depot, four underground malls... |
We arrived and Jeffery picked us up. Of course, the first thing on our itinerary was food, and we headed to meet up with Amy (godmother) and Mina (their youngest) for lunch at a famous old eatery in Kaohsiung

Great picture Hannah... |
After lunch and some quick shopping with Amy, Jeffery brought us back to their very spacious apartment and showed us our room. He had to run to the office for a bit and Amy had to bring Mina to calligraphy practice as she would be performing at an event put on by their local Minister of Parliament the next day. Thus we were left to relax and recover for a short period. It was appreciated. At lunch, when Jeffery and Amy found out that I actually liked chou dofu (stinky tofu), they were very excited and promised to take us to the best chou dofu ever for dinner that night.

Cool graffitti on the way |
It was a restaurant solely devoted to the delight that is stinky tofu, and it was busy! We waited for about 30 minutes out in the cold as the restaurant was quite small and only had so many tables. It was entirely, entirely worth it though. I am still almost crying thinking of how good the fried version was. SO SO GOOD.

BEST FOOD in Taiwan, hands down |
After dinner we went to the Love River and walked around the promenade area before heading back to their place and passing out. We still had a whole 'nother day!

Look at the moon! That statue is of a type of catfish that the Chinese believe can become a dragon by jumping up a certain waterfall. He is currently halfway through the transformation and as its considered a very auspicious event, the statue is therefore "lucky" |

Its the Love River! We are making a heart! |
