Road trip Day 17 - Butcher's Flat, Mount Richmond Forest Park

We are in the South Island! We took the 9am InterIslander to Picton. We had to pick up the dogs at 7am in the morning, and rush to the ferry. We were supposed to be at the terminal at 8am. There was heavy traffic on the highway, and when we reached the ferry terminal, it was 8.10am. Fortunately, the person was very nice, and let us through without questions. The ride to Picton was uneventful as the water was calm, and at 12.30pm, we arrived in Picton. The day was sunny, and warmer than Wellington!

We started driving on the Queen Charlotte Drive toward Havelock. We were looking forward to having green mussels at The Mussel Pot. We ate there about 3-4 years ago (when we dove the Lermontov), and have always been looking forward to going back to that place again. When we reached The Mussel Pot, we were served by a young guy who had just bought a sailboat.  He said tomorrow would be his last day at work, and he is going to sail around NZ! We had the sampler for 2, and a beer before we started driving towards our campsite.

The campsite was in a very remote part of the forest, and there was nobody there when we arrived. After we finally decided the place to camp for the night, another van showed up. Throughout the night, there was only us and the other van at the campsite. As usual, we let the dogs run around a bit, and went to play fetch in the stream nearby before we turned in for the night. The water must have been very cold, because one of them yelped when they first jumped in, and neither of them were keen to play for very long.
