Road Trip Day 21 - Boundary Creek, Lake Wanaka

It was a horrible day (at least for camping or driving around)! It had been pouring non-stop since 6am in the morning.

We had plans to take a helicopter flight to the glacier, but it was cancelled due to poor weather. If we had more time, we might probably wait for another day for the weather to clear. However, we only have 7 more days in the South Island, so we reluctantly decided to carry on driving South.

The drive itself, again, wasn’t as pleasant as it would be if the weather was nice… recalling, we also didn’t have much luck with the weather as well during our previous visit with Francis and Linda years ago! :(

However, along the way, we made the best of the it. We managed to take some really interesting photos along the Haast Pass. As a result of the cloudy skies, the photos turned out to be almost B&W! I guess it is beautiful in another perspective!

Along the way, we stopped by the Salmon Farm for a quick snack, and bought a piece of smoked salmon for dinner. According to the waitress, the place had more visitors than the last few days because of the bad weather! I guess most people are looking for places to go after the glaciers are not conducive for visiting. In her own nice kiwi diplomatic way, she was complaining of the mess on the table a bunch of Chinese customers had left behind!

Camping at Boundary Creek was also not a pleasant experience! There were so many campervans! An hour after we settled in our place nicely, some jerk decided it would be great to park their van less than 10m away from us! And there was so much more space around the campsite! Within a couple of hours, more vans showed up, and the whole campsite was crowded! Worst campsite ever! :(
