The night at Surfdale was definitely NOT comfortable! Hannah’s tummy was not feeling good, and she had to go to the toilet thrice in the night (luckily there was a toilet near the beach we freedom camped), and cramping two adults and two large dogs in a small van is definitely not fun! Hannah said that we are meant to be together if we are able to do two trans-Atlantic moves, while I said if we survive each other (and the two dogs) in the van for the following month, we will be fine in a tiny home! :) Anyway, we are up relatively bright and early (about 7am), pack up the bed and off we go to take the car ferry out of Waiheke. We grabbed a cup of coffee and a pie at the Waiheke bakery (first time ever there!), and waited in line patiently for us to load on the ferry. The lady came off and said “Good morning, Sonny…only one-way today?!” She REMEMBER me (or at least the van)! I guessed we are lived on the island long enough. And I replied “Yes, last time, moving out. Goodbye!”.
The trip to Half-moon bay was uneventful. Hannah and I were quiet throughout the journey, just soaking in the thought that this is our last car ferry trip off the island! What is our plan for the road-trip? - NO IDEA. We are going to spend the next few days at a campsite, unwind and then plan out where are we heading next.

One-way trip out of Waiheke |
Our first stop - Selena’s place. We went over to meet her for lunch while packing some last minute items in our checked-in luggages (which we are leaving at her place). Our original plan was to drop by her place, put the extra items in our luggage, have lunch with her, and be on our way. However, Selena had another plan - we ended up having lunch at “The Mastard Place”, brought the dogs and Selena’s landlord’s beagle, Poppy to the dog park. The dog park was huge, and Jet and Lilith definitely enjoyed running around after being cooped up in the van the entire day. Lilith decided that it was a great idea to play around in the mangroves, and ended up with mud (black, dirty, smelling mud) up to her knee! She made the whole van stink even though Hannah made every possible effort to wash off the mud. We ended the night with a BBQ at her place! We spend the night at Louise’s (Selena’s landlord) place, freshen up and be on our way tomorrow. Thank you Selena and Louise.
