Road trip day 2 - Dickey’s Flat, Karangahake Gorge

We woke up at around 7am. Selena, Lois (Selena’s landlord - I spelled her name wrong in previous post) and Hannah had spend the night talking about politics, feminism, interest etc, while I went to bed early. Actually, I made an excuse that I am tired so that the girls can spend sometime together! :) Hannah and I woke up to the horrible news of terrorist bombing Brussels - it made us shocked, angry and sad all at the same time! The news made us want to go camping in the woods, and get away from all these chaos!

Gloomy day
We had coffee at Selena’s place, made last minute updates to our friends and family, and off we go! The weather forecast isn't really nice - raining throughout today, and storming tomorrow with a chance of sunshine on Friday. Although Lois and Selena offered to let us stayed another few more nights, Hannah and I decided that we need to be on our way. At around 10am, we are on our way! We have to run a few errands first before we are really on the road trip - grocery (easily done at the local Countdown at Botany), looking for our broken spigot replacement for our 25L water container (we ended up spending nearly 2 hours before we found the replacement!).

The weather is definitely not great, but as a result of that, we have the whole campsite at Dickey’s Flat, Karangahake Gorge! We reached here at around 3pm, and started exploring the campsite. Jet and Lilith definitely enjoyed the place as much as Hannah and I. They were running around, jumping into the river, and more mud (Lilith), on a bridge etc. The campsite is beautiful - a river runs through the site, and there are a few nice walking trails. One of the “attractions” of the campsite is that there is no cellphone reception! :P We decided to spend a couple of nights here, and if there weather is not too bad tomorrow, we may go explore some of the trails.
