Road trip day 3 - Hotoritori, Coromandel Forest Park

Hannah said she had problems sleeping in the beginning, but I slept through the night! It was raining quite heavily part of last night, and we are expecting more rain today! We woke up at around 8am, had coffee, and watch the rain coming down. There are 3 more campers, and by about 10am, they were already on their way. Hannah took Jet and Lilith out for a walk in the rain while I work a bit on my writing (I know I should be relaxing but I have some deadlines!). Hannah walked all the way to the tunnel before turning back, and by the time she is back to the van, all of them (Jet, Lilith and her) are drenched! I reached my writing goal for the day. After we finished the pepper steak and mushroom soup that Hannah made, we decided that we are going to drive to and explore the Coromandel. The main purpose of going to Coromandel was to go try the green mussels again for the last time. However, the drive wasn’t too fun because of the rain, and we decided to change our destination to Thames.

We took the scenic road to Thames - meaning we took the unpaved road where there are lesser cars! We drove 25km on the unpaved road and finally reached Thames. We looked for a local restaurant that was highly recommended on Lonely Planet, but it turned out that the place was closed down :( Therefore, we decided to just get some cheap fish and chips, and would leave the tasting of green mussels when we are at the South Island.

Very nice views along the way
25km on unpaved road!
Pretty!

We ended the night camping at Hotoritori Campsite in the Coromandel Forest Park. Again, we are the one people in the campsite! Yay! The rain is supposed to stop tomorrow, so we hoped that we can explore some the trails around the park.

How we roll when we are camping!
